Weekends in Brisbane

It’s the weekend and you don’t know what to do in Brisbane? We’ve put together some ideas close to Brisbane City so you can make the most of your weekend.

South Bank

South Bank is Brisbane’s ultimate lifestyle destination, with activities, dining options and cultural exhibitions to keep everyone entertained all day long. South Bank is located just a 10 minute walk over the Victoria Bridge from Mercure Brisbane.

  • Soak up the sun and go swimming at Street’s Beach (a manmade, patrolled beach).
  • Eat your way around South Bank’s cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs.
  • Rent a CityCycle Bike and ride around the river to Kangaroo Point or West End.
  • Let the kid’s run wild at the playground or let them roam the Epicurious Garden.
  • Enjoy live music on the River Quay Green every Sunday afternoon. Tip: pack a picnic or order a classic Italian picnic from local restaurant, Popolo.
  • Visit the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland Maritime Museum, Sciencentre or Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).
  • See a movie at South Bank Cineplex.
  • Take a ride on The Wheel of Brisbane.

Eagle Street Pier

Enjoy an afternoon at Eagle Street Pier. Located on Eagle Street, this dining precinct has some of the best views of the Brisbane River. Did we mention there are over 15 restaurants and bars to choose from? Take advantage of the location and treat yourself to an award winning waterfront dinner.

New Farm

Start your Saturday at the Jan Powers Farmers Markets located in New Farm at the Powerhouse from 6am – noon. Just a short drive or City Cat ride from the Mercure Brisbane. Grab a coffee and decide between all of the freshly baked goods, crepes, sausages or dumplings for breakfast before wandering through the stalls. Bring your own basket to fill with farm fresh fruit and vegetables, sauces, olives, herbs, oils, even meats and seafood!

Queen Street Mall

Shop until you drop! Just a 3 minute walk from the hotel, Queen Street is Brisbane's most vibrant and exciting pedestrian mall with over 700 stores. The lifestyle precinct is home to arcades, high-end shopping, restaurants, cafes and cinemas. Queen Street Mall is full of events and entertainment for the whole family.
